Since its early days as the Datsun 240Z nearly 60 years ago, the Nissan Z has captivated drivers with its commitment to sports car tradition. Now, a major upgrade for 2027 is sure to excite the model’s devotees as well as driving purists in general. One of the legendary two-seater’s most beloved nostalgic features is its standard 6-speed manual transmission, especially in an era when many of its contemporaries have forgone the stick shift. The only drawback to the Z’s traditional gearbox was that it was only offered on the base Sport and mid-level Performance trims, forcing buyers to choose between the manual transmission and the range-topping NISMO’s extra horsepower. Well, the wait is over in 2027, as the NISMO Z finally comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission to complement its exclusive sport-tuned engine. The track-ready trim also gets new brakes: a NISMO-tuned Akebono system with four-piston front calipers and 15-inch two-piece drilled rotors (derived from the GT-R).
Elsewhere in the lineup, the Sport and Performance both get a redesigned front end, swapping the boxy black grille for a slim fascia with a body-colored accent bar, which the Performance complements with restyled wheels. The Performance and NISMO also gain wireless smartphone charging and over-the-air updates, along with real-time traffic and weather through SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. Never one to miss an opportunity to honor its heritage, the 2027 Z replaces its Nissan badge with an exclusive “Z” emblem and adds Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic to the color palette as a tribute to the S30-generation model, better known to Nissan diehards as the Fairlady.
