2026 Nissan Frontier Hero

The Nissan Frontier has been a clever and capable pickup for decades. For 2026, the automaker has reinforced the midsized Frontier’s credentials by adding more standard features and go-anywhere capability. The SV with four-wheel drive (4WD) and the PRO-4X have a new terrain management system with hill descent control and modes for driving on rock, sand, mud, and roads. Meanwhile, the SV, PRO-X, and PRO-4X have been given an eight-way power driver's seat. LED headlights are a new enhancement for the two lowest trims, the S and SV. Nissan didn't ignore comfort, adding heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start to the standard equipment list for both PRO trims. The options for the mid-tier SV now include the All-Weather Package (heated front seats and a heated steering wheel) and the Dark Armor Package, an appearance package with trim-exclusive treatments inside and out. Nissan has also streamlined the Frontier’s trim range, discontinuing last year’s SL.

Trims, Configurations, and Powertrain

The 2026 Frontier has four trims – S, SV, PRO-X, and PRO-4X – and two cab configurations: a King Cab (four seats) and a Crew Cab (five seats). The King Cab (two standard front doors and two smaller rear-access doors) is offered only in the S. The Crew Cab (four standard doors) is available on all trims. While the King Cab only has a 6-foot cargo bed, the Crew Cab switches to a 5-foot bed, with the 6-foot bed being optional on the SV and PRO-4X trims.

All 2026 Frontiers are equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 (output: 310 horsepower and 281 lb.-ft. of torque) and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The S, SV, and PRO-X have standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), with part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) optional on the S and SV and included with the PRO-4X. Depending on trim, drivetrain, and cab style, the Frontier can tow from 6,270 to 7,150 pounds; payload capacity ranges from 1,100 to 1,590 pounds. The EPA-estimated fuel economy (which also varies by trim and drivetrain) ranges from 16 to 19 mpg around town and 20 to 24 mpg on the highway.

Standard Features

The base S is well equipped with LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, fabric upholstery, a rear sliding window, a 60/40-split flip-up rear bench seat (Crew Cab), a tilt steering column, rear privacy glass, and a 7-inch driver information display. It also has remote keyless entry, push-button ignition, a front skid plate, a locking tailgate, USB ports (two in the King Cab, four in the Crew Cab), and steel (King Cab) or aluminum-alloy (Crew Cab) 16-inch wheels. The SV adds an eight-way power driver's seat, premium fabric upholstery, power side mirrors, second-row under-seat storage, a vehicle security system, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The optional All-Weather Package will furnish heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote start. The available SV Convenience Package has everything from the All-Weather Package plus a sprayed-in bedliner, heated power side mirrors, a cargo management system, 120-volt outlets, and a trailer hitch with a wiring harness.

The PRO-X gives the Frontier extra rugged treatment with Bilstein shock absorbers, LED fog lights, LED daytime running lights, and 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. For convenience and comfort, it has dual-zone automatic climate control, embroidered premium cloth, proximity keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and LED cabin lighting. The PRO-4X is outfitted similarly to the PRO-X, but it also has an electronic locking rear differential, hill descent control, additional steel underbody plates, and unique exterior and interior accents. The PRO-X and PRO-4X are eligible for two optional groupings. The Convenience Package adds a surround-view monitor, spray-in bedliner, heated power side mirrors, a cargo system, 120-volt outlets, a trailer hitch with a wiring harness, and wireless device charging. The PRO Premium Package brings together leather upholstery, a power moonroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and driver-assistance and infotainment upgrades (covered in the next two sections).

Advanced Safety Technology

Every 2026 Frontier is set up with Nissan Safety Shield 360. This array of advanced driver-assist technologies consists of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, a driver alertness monitor, and automatic high beams. The optional PRO Premium Package adds traffic sign recognition. Every trim also has a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, hill start assist, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Frontier S delivers infotainment through an 8-inch touchscreen, while the system increases to 12.3 inches in the higher trims. All grades have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (wireless in all but the S), SiriusXM satellite radio (except the S), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and access to NissanConnect services. The optional PRO Premium Package includes navigation and a Fender sound system with ten speakers. Audio otherwise comes through six speakers in all but the S trim, which gets four speakers.
