When the Altima took the place of the Stanza in Nissan’s lineup for the 1993 model year, it began a long tradition of filling the needs of commuters who wanted a grown-up sedan that still offered plenty of value. For the bulk of its existence, the Altima was the “middle sibling” between the compact Sentra and the full-sized (and more luxury oriented) Maxima. With the Maxima having driven off into the sunset, the Altima has an important role to play as the more upscale four-door on the roster.
