Trims and Powertrains

Nissan will offer the new Kicks in trim packages called S, SV, and SR. They’ll all get the stronger powerplant, a 2.0-liter inline-four engine rated for 141 horsepower (a noticeable jump from last year’s 122 hp). While front-wheel drive is going to be standard, all trims will qualify for the optional all-wheel drive, which will come with a selector for “snow mode” for extra wintertime confidence. Nissan’s latest-generation Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) will pair with both drivetrains. The Kicks promises 30 cubic feet of storage behind the second row and a class-leading 60 cubic feet when the back seats are unoccupied and folded flat.

Standard Features

The Kicks S will come with essential features like fabric upholstery, push-button start, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a USB port, and 16-inch steel wheels with covers, as well as some equipment not normally seen on a base model at this price point, such as a heated wiper park, LED headlights, and proximity keyless entry. The SV will be upgraded with wireless device charging, LED cabin lighting, additional USB ports, rear privacy glass, and 17-inch steel wheels with covers. Nissan plans on more comfort and convenience features for the SR, such as automatic temperature control, leatherette upholstery with fabric inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Some options for the SV and SR are said to include heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Nissan’s most affordable crossover will have Safety Shield 360 in every trim level. This collection of the latest driver-assistance technologies consists of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. All grades will also get rear door alert and a driver attention monitor. The S an SR will have adaptive cruise control, which will be upgraded in the SR to ProPilot Assist, a semi-autonomous hands-on driving system (a first for this nameplate). The SR will also have a surround-view monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Infotainment for the Kicks S will happen via a 7-inch color touchscreen, while the two higher trims get a 12.3-inch touchscreen. While every Kicks will have Bluetooth, only the SV and SR will get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free, and access to NissanConnect services. A four-speaker audio system will come standard in the S and SV, with the SR getting an additional pair of speakers. The Kicks SR will be eligible for a ten-speaker Bose system with front-row headrest speakers.
