Trims, Configurations, and Powertrain

The 2025 Frontier comes in five trims – S, SV, PRO-X, PRO-4X, and SL – and two cab configurations, King Cab and Crew Cab. The four-seat King Cab is reserved exclusively for the S and SV trims and has two standard front doors and two smaller rear-access doors. The Crew Cab, with four standard doors and seating for five, is available in all five trims. King Cab editions have a 6-foot cargo bed, while the Crew Cab is available with a 5- or 6-foot bed (depending on the trim).

All Frontiers have a 3.8-liter V6 under the hood; it makes 310 horsepower and 281 lb.-ft. of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard across most of the range, with four-wheel drive (4WD) included with the PRO-4X and optional for the S, SV, and SL. The PRO-X is exclusively rear-wheel drive. A nine-speed automatic transmission manages both drivetrains.

Depending on the trim, configuration, and drivetrain, the Frontier can tow 6,270 to 7,150 pounds (an increase of 510 pounds from last year). Its maximum payload capacity ranges from 1,020 to 1,620 pounds. The EPA estimates that the fuel economy for the RWD Frontier is 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which changes to 17 mpg around town and 21 mpg on the open road with 4WD.

Standard Features and Major Options

The work-focused Frontier S has essential equipment like manual air conditioning, fabric upholstery, automatic headlights, LED taillights, rear privacy glass, a 60/40-split flip-up rear bench seat (Crew Cab), a rear sliding window, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 7-inch driver information display, a tilt steering column, second-row under-seat storage, a locking tailgate, a front skid plate, and 16-inch steel wheels. The King Cab has two USB ports while the Crew Cab gets four.

The SV adds a six-way power driver’s seat with lumbar controls, power side mirrors, a chrome-look grille, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The optional SV Convenience Package will supply remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, proximity key entry, push-button ignition, fog lights, heated power side mirrors, a tow hitch receiver, a factory-applied spray-on bedliner, a cargo bed tie-down system, a 120-volt outlet in the cargo area, LED bed lighting, and daytime running lights.

The PRO-X expands on the SV’s equipment list with Bilstein shock absorbers, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED headlights and fog lights, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, LED daytime running lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, unique interior and exterior treatments, and LED cabin lighting. The PRO-4X underscores this trim’s 4WD capabilities with an electronic locking rear differential, hill descent control, additional steel underbody plates, and trim-specific exterior and interior accents. Both PRO trims are eligible for the PRO Convenience Package, which shares many elements with the SV Convenience Package. Upscale touches are part of the PRO Premium Package (PRO-X or PRO-4X), which adds leather upholstery, a power moonroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and infotainment upgrades (described below). At the pinnacle of the lineup, the SL incorporates most of the features of the SV with the Convenience Package plus leather upholstery, a power moonroof, LED exterior lighting (with fog lamps), wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

All trims also get rear parking sensors and a driver alertness monitor. A surround-view monitor and traffic recognition are optional on the PRO trims and standard for the SL. Every Frontier has a rearview monitor, a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and hill start assist.
