Trims and Mechanical Details

Nissan presents the 2023 Versa in a trio of trim levels: S, SV, and SR. They all have a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 122 horsepower and pairs with either a five-speed manual transmission (standard in the S) or a continuously variable transmission (CVT): the CVT is optional in the S and standard in the SV and SR. This highly efficient front-wheel-drive compact sedan returns 32 miles per gallon city and 40 mpg highway with the CVT, as estimated by the EPA. The S trim equipped with the manual transmission will get 27 city/35 highway.

Standard Equipment by Trim

The S is a no-nonsense sedan with fabric upholstery and manually adjusted front seats and air conditioning, but it also gets a class-leading array of driver-assist technologies via Nissan Safety Shield 360 (see the next section for details). As a change for this model year, those who order this base trim with the CVT can opt to add the S+ Package to get a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, 16-inch wheels, and a superior NissanConnect infotainment system with smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

The SV raises the bar with wireless phone charging, automatic on/off headlights, chrome interior door handles, Nissan Intelligent Key (proximity entry), push-button start, a 7-inch Advanced Drive-Assist digital gauge cluster, a center console armrest with storage, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback. At the top of the lineup, the SR shows off a unique look with LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and darker exterior elements, plus more creature comforts such as heated front seats, automatic climate control, remote start (with climate control settings), heated side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, sport-cloth seats, Prima-Tex imitation leather dash trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 Driver-Assist Technology

As we said in the introduction, the 2023 Versa outdoes the other vehicles in its segment by coming with the most safety features. That list of technologies includes automatic high beams, intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, reverse automatic braking, and hill start assist. The two higher trims also receive driver attention warning and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert; the SR alone gets intelligent cruise control.

Connectivity Features

The base 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes in the S trim and bundles these features: an AM/FM sound system with four speakers, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and voice recognition. The SV adds smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), SiriusXM satellite radio, and NissanConnect. The SR is improved with an 8-inch touchscreen and another pair of speakers. The S gets three USB-A ports and a 12V outlet. The SV swaps two of the USB-A ports for the more versatile USB-C ports; the SR gets four USB-C ports.
