New Nissan 2022 Nissan Armada vs. The Competition for Sale in Warwick, RI

Overview
The full-sized SUV is about as practical as it gets, and the three-row 2022 Nissan Armada is among the most attractive in this class. With its truck-like body-on-frame construction, it’s plenty rugged and capable of traveling to places where most vehicles can’t. But while the Armada definitely has a captivating personality, it has some competition out there. Three of its main rivals are the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2021 Ford Expedition, and 2022 Toyota Sequoia. Let’s look at how those other large SUVs stack up against Nissan’s biggest model.

Power and Performance
Although these are all robust four-wheel-drive-eligible vehicles, the Tahoe, Expedition, and Sequoia have a difficult time competing with the Armada where sheer brawn is a concern. With its 5.6-liter Endurance V8 engine, the Armada churns out 400 hp, which is the most output from the aforementioned vehicles’ standard powerplants. The Tahoe’s standard 5.3-liter V8 only makes 355 hp; the Expedition’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 375 hp; and the Sequoia’s 5.7-liter V8 makes 381 hp. While the Tahoe also has an available 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 hp, it’s only offered on the high-level RST trim, which has an MSRP close to $60,000.
What’s more, the Armada can tow up to 8,500 pounds. The Tahoe maxes out at 8,200 lb., and the Sequoia at 7,400 lb. While the Expedition can tow a maximum of 9,300 lb. with the available Heavy-Duty Trailer Towing Package, you’ll need to pay extra for that: without the package, the Expedition’s towing capacity tops out at 6,600 lb.
Pricing and Amenities
While these three-row beasts are neck-and-neck in terms of pricing (especially when you compare the entry-level trims), the Armada is still slightly less expensive than its peers. It has a base MSRP of $48,900, whereas the base MSRPs of the Tahoe ($49,700), Sequoia ($50,500), and Expedition ($50,595). Even as you make your way to the higher-end trims, the Armada is still the most cost-effective of the bunch. Its Platinum trim level carries an MSRP of $68,300. In contrast, the top-tier Expedition Platinum begins at $74,150; the Tahoe High Country begins at $71,695; and the Sequoia Platinum is $69,775. Despite having the lowest-priced loaded trim level, the Armada offers premium amenities that you can’t get with the competition. For example, it’s eligible for an infotainment system with a class-best 12.3-inch touchscreen. (The largest touchscreen in the Tahoe is 10.2 inches, while the Expedition has an 8-inch touchscreen across the board, and the Sequoia’s is even smaller at 7 inches). The Armada also comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; The Expedition’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is of the less convenient plug-in variety.

Infotainment and Connectivity
While these vehicles are certainly hardy, they’re also great for families, and drivers will feel better knowing their chosen SUV has up-to-date active safety technologies. In this regard, the Armada still has a clear edge. The Armada is the only model mentioned here that has two main class-exclusive safety systems: intelligent forward collision warning and intelligent blind-spot intervention. The intelligent forward collision warning system can monitor up to two vehicles ahead; the other models’ systems can only detect one. The Tahoe, Expedition, and Sequoia do offer blind-spot monitoring systems, but the Armada’s is superior because it has an intervention function to guide you back into your lane when all is clear.
